PAGASA: Monsoon rains loom over western Philippines

Typhoon "Chedeng" (Songda) may be gone, but parts of the country can still expect rains due to the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Sunday. In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon is particularly affecting the western parts of the country. "The western section of Southern Luzon, of Visayas and of Mindanao will experience occasional rains. The rest of the country will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms," it said. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Chedeng brought winds and rains to parts of the country last week. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said at least three had been confirmed killed because of typhoon. — LBG, GMA News
