Cebu's efforts vs human trafficking to be featured on CNN

Cebu province's efforts against human trafficking will be featured in a documentary of international news outfit Cable News Network (CNN) entitled "Freedom Project." A crew from CNN interviewed Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia for its documentary dealing on modern-day slavery and human trafficking. Leif Coorlim, editorial director of the CNN "Freedom Project," sought the interview with Garcia, radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported on Monday. Garcia’s interview will become part of a documentary that will show the Philippine government’s contribution to the global campaign against trafficking. The documentary will also feature the efforts of groups like the Visayan Forum Foundation and International Justice Mission. Garcia said there is a need to get all sectors involved in the fight against human trafficking because it is a complex problem. Last weekend, the Manila Bulletin newspaper reported about CNN's interview with Garcia. “As governor of Cebu and a champion of women’s rights, your insights into the success of anti-trafficking efforts in Cebu and your perspectives on future efforts on the part of the government and law enforcement to combat human trafficking would be an invaluable addition to the project," the report quoted Coorlim as telling Garcia in a letter. - VVP, GMA News
