Talisay fish pen owners lose hope of making money

Fish pen owners and workers in Talisay, Batangas are losing hope of earning this harvest season as dead fish keep floating to the surface of lake Taal. In a TV report on GMA News’ News-To-Go on Tuesday, some fishpen caretakers said they are moving their cages to sections of the lake where they hope their fish may be able to get some oxygen from the water and live. Others have taken to using pumps in hopes of infusing oxygen into the water, but the affected fishermen said no matter how much oxygen they pump, the fish continue to die. Hurting from earnings lost, fish pen owners maintain that the fish they are able to send to markets are freshly harvested fish, not from the fish kill.

They said some fish may have already been dead overnight before floating to the surface in the morning. Around 400 tons of fish have already been buried in Talisay. — AY/ELR/VS, GMA News
