CA panel recommends CSC exec for confirmation

A Commission on Appointments (CA) panel on Wednesday recommended for confirmation Rasol Lamping Mitmug as commissioner of the Civil Service Commission (CSC). The CA's committee on constitutional commissions and offices made the recommendation after no formal opposition was made against the appointment of Mitmug. Senator Franklin Drilon, who was present during the hearing, said that Mitmug's appointment was "consistent" with the spirit of the Organic Act of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). "Our Muslim brothers should be given an equal chance," he said. Mitmug, for his part, expressed eagerness to serve the CSC. "I am (a) dedicated public servant I hope I will be able to serve our people to the best of my abilities," he said. Mitmug replaced CSC commissioner Cesar Buenaflor whose term expired in February 2011. He had served as the regional director at the Commission on Audit (COA), where he worked for 35 years. The CA will tackle the panel's recommendation during plenary session later in the day. The CA panel, meanwhile, is set to tackle the appointment of Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Sixto Brillantes next. Kim Tan/RSJ, GMA News
