iGMA: Amaya kicks off with impressive TV ratings

GMA Network's groundbreaking soap opera, Amaya, lives up to its epic expectations after debuting with high viewer ratings on the Telebabad block.

According to data from the more widely recognized industry ratings supplier Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, Amaya enjoyed an impressive 26.2 percent Mega Manila household rating last Monday, May 30. On Tuesday, it ruled once again with 26.7 percent overnight rating. Anticipation is high for the Kapuso network's most expensive and biggest TV production which is topbilled by a grand ensemble of cast headlined by Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera. Viewers of all ages are definitely in for a treat with this pioneering historical fiction epicserye which is not only a visual delight for its spectacular production values that complement its intricately detailed and well-crafted plot but also becomes a medium to teach and explain history to students and audiences of the program. The show is expected to set even higher ratings on the coming days especially when Marian as the warrior princess Amaya comes face to face with the prophecy that will change the course of her destiny. Also, the breathtaking cinematography, production designs, costumes, dialogues and rituals patterned according to pre-Hispanic history using Central Visayas as backdrop pull everyone under spell for its cinematic magic which devises a world unlike anything we have seen on primetime TV before. This week, more exciting twists will unfold as Datu Bugna (Raymond Bagasting) hides his daughter Amaya and her identity from the hands of the wicked Rajah Mangubat (Gardo Versoza). Bugna turns Amaya into a "binukot" or princess and makes her on equal footing with his two daughters from Lamitan (Gina Alajar), Marikit (Rochelle Pangilinan) at Binayaan (Glaiza de Castro). Amaya grows up into a life of privilege, learning how to sing, dance and even how to use a kampilan (sword). Bugna shows utmost care to Amaya which makes Marikit jealous and resentful of her father's special treatment to her sister. Lamitan is furious towards her husband Bugna and plots an evil scheme to get rid of Amaya. Will her wicked plan prevail? Amaya airs weeknights right after Captain Barbell on GMA Telebabad. -- iGMA.tv
