400 kilos 'double-dead' fish seized in QC

At least 400 kilos of suspected "double-dead" fish believed from areas affected by a recent fish kill were seized in Quezon City early Thursday. Teams from the city veterinary office backed by city police seized the fish from the Balintawak Market at Old Samson Road, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported. Found in some stalls at the market were 400 kilos of suspected double-dead bangus packed in ice, the report said. Members of the inspection team suspect the fish came from Dagupan and Batangas. The seized fish was to be dumped at the Payatas dump site in Quezon City.

In the meantime, the Quezon City police office said it will continue operations against the selling of double-dead fish, which health authorities said may cause health problems. Meanwhile, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Assistant Director Felipe Tabios Jr. said local authorities have been doing their part against the sale of "double-dead" fish. "Authorities are doing everything possible to make sure the double-dead fish does not reach markets, including setting up checkpoints," he said in an interview on dwIZ radio.— LBG, GMA News
