Las Piñas laborer claims P356.5-M lotto prize

(Updated 3:01 p.m.) A construction worker from Las Piñas City who moonlights as barangay tanod at night is the most recent winner of the 6/55 Grand Lotto draw of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The 60-year-old lucky bettor claimed his P356,552,917.20 jackpot prize at the PCSO Office at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City at around 10 a.m. Thursday, according to PCSO General Manager Atty. Jose Fernandez M. Roxas II. For security reasons, the PCSO normally does not divulge the name of lotto winners. "I told him (the winner) three things," Roxas said. "First, to thank God for the blessing. Second, to help those who are in need. And third, to use the money wisely." He said the winner, who picked Wednesday night's winning combination 5-9-19-26-30-45, is a married man with six children. He said the winner and his wife, as well as their children, were not able to go to school because of poverty. The winner paid P20 for one ticket, picking his number combination from his anniversary and birth dates of his children. Roxas said the winner, wearing a light yellow polo, was with one of his sons and some relatives when he picked up his check. "He was almost speechless. He only talked when you asked him questions," Roxas said. "From his appearance you can really see that he needed the money." Roxas said the winner's first plan was to buy a house and lot in his province in the Bicol region. "He and his wife do not have their own house here in Metro Manila," he said. The previous big winner of the 6/55 draw was a 60-year-old male balikbayan, who placed a bet at the Royal Duty Free Mall at the Subic Metropolitan Authority in Olongapo City. He won in November 2010. - KBK, GMA News
