Merci still 'star' of Ombudsman website

She may have resigned more than a month ago and headed off an impeachment trial, but former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez remains the star in the Ombudsman's official website. As of Friday night, visitors to the Office of the Ombudsman website still get to see images of Gutierrez "in action" – and a photo of Ombudsman employees showing their support for her. The site's splash screen plays the Ombudsman hymn, along with images of Gutierrez as Ombudsman.

Photos on the main site, on the other hand, still feature Gutierrez as Ombudsman, including one where employees showed support for her. "Ipinapahayag naming mga kawani ng Ombudsman ang aming tiwala at pakikiisa sa mahal naming Ombudsman, Ma. Merceditas N. Gutierrez," read part of the message in a tarpaulin in the photo. Another photo shows Gutierrez raising her fist at a signing of a memorandum of agreement. Gutierrez resigned from her post last April 29, after the House of Representatives impeached her. Her resignation came 10 days before the start of her impeachment trial at the Senate. Her impeachment stemmed from allegations she sat on graft cases involving top officials of the previous administration, as Gutierrez is perceived to be close to former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. — LBG, GMA News
