PAGASA: LPA may bring floods, landslides to Palawan, Mindanao

A low-pressure area has entered the Philippine area of responsibility and may bring flash floods and landslides to parts of Palawan and Mindanao, state weather forecasters said. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was at 380 kilometers (km) east of Mindanao as of 10:00 a.m. In its 11:00 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said the LPA is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). "Both are expected to bring scattered to widespread rains over Palawan and Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said. Meanwhile, the weather site Typhoon2000 said the LPA is moving west-northwest across the Philippine Sea towards Eastern Visayas and Bicol. It said widespread rains with squalls and thunderstorms associated by this LPA can be expected this week. However, the site said the chances of the LPA becoming a cyclone within the next 24 hours are low at 20 percent. - VVP, GMA News
