Report: 11 hurt in bus accident in Bataan

At least 11 people were injured after a minibus they were riding went out of control and turned turtle in a freak accident in Bagac, Bataan on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred while the mini-bus was negotiating a zigzag road in Binukawan village in Bagac town, radio dzRH reported early Tuesday. Police investigators are verifying claims that the bus driver was speeding at the time of the incident. Bataan police chief Senior Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao said their initial investigation showed the bus' brakes may have failed while it negotiated the road. Gunnacao cited initial reports reaching him indicating the incident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. Monday, while the bus was heading for Bagac. A separate report on dwIZ radio said the passengers were brought to the Bagac Medical Center for first aid, but 11 of them were brought to Bataan General Hospital for further treatment. The Bataan incident came hours after another bus accident in Ilocos Norte that injured at least 32 people. Bacarra town deputy police chief Senior Inspector Samson Amistad cited sketchy initial reports indicating a motorcycle cut in front of the mini-bus, prompting the bus driver to swerve to avoid hitting the smaller vehicle. However, the mini-bus went out of control and turned turtle. - VVP, GMA News
