Despite rains, slippery road buses race on 'killer highway'

Despite the danger posed by early morning rains on road conditions, buses continued to race on the "killer highway" in Quezon City early Wednesday. Several buses were seen breaching the 60-kph speed limit on Commonwealth Avenue between 4 and 6 a.m., radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported. Many of the buses were from firms that had figured in high-profile accidents along the notorious highway in past weeks, the report said. Only last week, several public utility vehicles like jeepneys and buses were caught violating the speed limit along the 12.4-km Commonwealth Avenue. Many of the buses were flagged down near the Technohub area, where a bus rammed a taxi carrying journalist Chit Estella and killed her last May 13. The May 13 incident prompted the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the DOTC to work with the Philippine National Police in strictly enforcing traffic rules along Commonwealth Avenue. — LBG, GMA News
