UN body to train PHL officials on gender-based violence


A United Nations (UN) team will conduct a training for Philippine investigators on handling and preventing sexual and gender-based violence later this month. The Philippine National Police said the training by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO) will be held June 20 to July 1 in Camp Crame, Quezon City. "Participants of the said training are expected to get familiar with the newly developed training standards and to enhance their skills and knowledge on Sexual and Gender-Based Crimes," the PNP said in a news release on its website over the weekend. "The 10-day training curriculum is to be attended by 20 international and local participants, four will represent the Philippine National Police (PNP)," the PNP added. The Training of Trainers (TOT) for Asian Region on UN Police Standardized Training Curriculum on Investigating and Preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence will be held at the PNP Training Service. According to the UNDPKO, the training is interactive and requires participants to practice their enhanced knowledge on the various subjects by preparing for the set-of-training sessions on SGBV in their respective countries. UNDPKO will shoulder all the expenses of foreign participants, while the PNP will shoulder the expenses for its representatives to the training. PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo will be the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony while Justice Secretary Leila de Lima will attend the the closing ceremony. Senior PNP officials will also join all the dignitaries and guests during the closing ceremony, the PNP said. - VVP, GMA News
