Alleged Digos City bomber arrested

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Authorities here on Wednesday night arrested a suspect in the bombing attack in Digos City three years ago where over 30 people were hurt. Inspector Rolando Dillera, head of the intelligence unit of the Kidapawan City Police, identified the suspect as Muhammid Nur, 22, who is also known as Medz. The suspect was arrested in Nuangan village at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday. According to Dillera, Nur is a known personality in the Al Khobar group, an extortion ring operating in Central Mindanao and targeting buses plying the Cotabato-Davao highway. Dillera said an informant tipped the police of Nur’s whereabouts, resulting in the suspect’s arrest. “We did a week-long surveillance of Nur. He acted like he’s a free man… going to public places without thinking he has a warrant for his arrest," the police official said. The suspect did not resist arrest, Dillera added. Dillera said that during the investigation, Nur admitted having participated in the July 2008 bombing in a bus terminal in Digos City . Nur, however, denied the accusation in an interview with the media. He said he was on a field trip in Digos City on the day the improvised explosive device (IED) exploded inside the terminal. “I was with my school mates when the bombing happened," said the suspect, who is facing charges of multiple murder, multiple frustrated murder, and multiple attempted murder in relation to the incident. — KBK, GMA News
