NDRRMC: 1 dead, 1 missing, 368 evacuated due to 'Dodong'


A 56-year-old woman drowned while a 10-year-old boy was reported missing due to floods triggered by rain brought by tropical depression "Dodong." The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also said several families in Batangas and Cavite provinces were evacuated to safer grounds due to floods. In its 1 p.m. report, the NDRRMC identified the fatality as Alejandra Mortel, of Sitio Kabangan in Carmen village in San Agustin town in Romblon, an island province in the MIMAROPA (Region 4-B). Also, it said Mark Daniel Ken Mateo of Batangas City has been missing since Wednesday. Several families were evacuated from Batangas and Cavite, including 153 families or 368 people from four villages in Batangas City; and 20 families (40 people) from Maharlika West village in Tagaytay City. Floods left three passenger buses stranded in Sta. Lucia village in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, due to the swelling of the Alongpong River. But as of 1 p.m. Thursday, two buses were able to proceed to their respective destinations. A barge loaded with soya beans drifted along the coast of Sariaya town in Quezon but four of its crew members managed to swim to safer ground. Impassable roads The NDRRMC said the Baler-Casiguran Road Km280+000-Km281+000 Dlaned/Pimpolisan Section Dicadi area was impassable to all types of vehicles due to landslide. The Department of Public Works and Highways Engineering District in Aurora mobilized one pay loader for clearing operations. Parts of Lucena City and Quezon province, as well as San Pablo City in Laguna province, were experiencing power interruptions. — LBG/KBK, GMA News
