YouTubers rock out on the Les Paul Google Doodle

The late guitar hero Lester William Polsfuss (Les Paul) would have been flattered. On Thursday, shortly after Google posted its latest Doodle —a playable online guitar in celebration of Les Paul's 96th birthday— several amateur musicians took the opportunity to upload their original arrangements to YouTube. Here's a quick, 9-second tune from AlexHorowitzUK: One composer used the playable guitar to play part of the "Metal Gear Solid" theme, but failed to reach the higher notes. "That's about as far as it can go the next keys are too high," the composer, TheNetherGamers, said in the page containing the video: Another musician, OctillianOfficial, uploaded "Jung People's Paws": Still another YouTuber, poiciudadano, uploaded "Redemption Songs" on YouTube using the guitar: Earlier Thursday, Google's home page featured a playable guitar as a tribute to Paul. Hovering the mouse or pointing device over the strings would produce a specific note. Paul is credited for popularizing innovations such as delay effects, phasing effects and multi-track recording. He is perhaps most famously know for having collaborated on the design of the "Gibson Les Paul" electric guitar. — TJD, GMA News
