DFA: PHL women rowers place 3rd in Macau dragon boat race


The Philippines' Triton Dragon Boat Women's racing team won third place in the Women's 500-meter Category B in the Macau International Dragon Boat Races last June 4 to 6. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday the Philippine men's team also managed to reach the highly competitive finals of the C category. "Crew captain Sandee Molato of the ladies' division led a 28-crew member team, while Rowell Casaclang headed the men's division which also had a 28-crew member team," the DFA said in a news release on its website. It said the boat races were held at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Center. China's Nanhai Jiujiang team, a consistent winner, garnered the victory in the event's 500-meter international race open and women categories. The DFA noted the Philippine National Team was champion in the 2007 Macau International Standard Dragon Boat Race (500 meters) open category. For this year, it said the teams that participated in the international invitational standard dragon boat race-open category (500 meters) included China Tianjin, China Sichuan, Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association, San Francisco Golden Dragons, Pacific West Penang, Malaysia, Typhoon-UK, Triton- Philippines and Macau Selection Team. The women's category (500 meters) included the following participants: China Nanhai Jiujiang, Chian Tianjin, Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association, Singapore National Team, Triton Philippines, Hong Kong island paddle Club, Hong Kong Stormy Dragons and Macau Selection Team. - VVP, GMA News
