Military: NPA officer nabbed in Quezon province

Government forces captured a New People's Army (NPA) officer during a raid on a rebel safe house in General Luna town in Quezon province, the military said Friday. Col. Generoso Bolina, spokesman for the military's Southern Luzon Command, said Cruzaldy Villalon Hernandez was nabbed by soldiers from the 74th Infantry Battalion around 4 p.m. Thursday in Bacong Ilaya village. According to Bolina, Hernandez is a liaison officer of the guerrilla unit of the Communist Party's provincial party committee. Recovered from Hernandez were a Carbine rifle, a shotgun, a box of ammunition for M16 rifle, military uniforms, and "other materials of high intelligence value." Government troops are still scouring the area for a cal .50 machine gun supposedly being hidden at the NPA lair, even as police authorities are preparing appropriate charges against Hernandez. — LBG, GMA News
