An earlier report said at least 26 fishermen aboard a fishing vessel were reported missing after venturing into the Spratlys area, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday. However, Ricafrente said there were actually two fishing vessels:
  • FB "3M's Wolf" with 24 fishermen, and
  • FB "Eric" with three fishermen on board. Ricafrente said the PCG was still trying to confirm a separate report that three other missing fishermen from "FB Eric," have been rescued by another seacraft in the Alaminos areas in Pangasinan. Twenty-six fishermen were declared missing late Thursday after they failed to arrive at the shores of Bolinao at 6:30 p.m., the expected time of their arrival. Two planes and two ships from the PCG and Philippine Navy were earlier deployed for the search-and-rescue operation. Dodong exits Philippine territory The successful rescue of the 24 fishermen of FB "3M's Wolf," came around the time that storm "Dodong" left the Philippine area of responsibility and moved toward China. In its 11:00 a.m., the Philippine Atmoshpheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Dodong was last spotted 330 kilometers northwest of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte. The weather disturbance packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. Moving north northwest at 25 kph, Dodong is expected to be 540 km northwest of Basco, Batanes by Saturday morning. On Thursday afternoon, Pangasinan was placed under Storm Signal No. 1 due to tropical cyclone Dodong. Also placed under the same storm signal were Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales. The storm signal in all these areas was lifted Friday morning, as Dodong, which intensified into a storm, moved towards China. In its 1:00 p.m. report, the NDRRMC said the death toll from Dodong remained at two, including 10-year-old Mark Daniel Ken Mateo of Batangas City; and Alejandra Mortel, 56, of San Agustin town in the island province of Romblon. Jenson Teruel, meanwhile, was hurt when the barge he was on board and that was loaded with soya beans encountered rough waves in Quezon province. Nine other people as of this posting remained missing in separate incidents in the provinces of Quezon and Marinduque, the NDRRMC added. Meanwhile, 14 other fishermen were rescued in separate rescue operations in Quezon and Romblon. The NDRRMC said Dodong also affected 227 families or 661 people from nine villages in Batangas City. It added that all evacuation centers had been already closed as evacuees have already returned to their homes. The Department of Social Welfare and Development has already pre-positioned P25.4 million worth of standby funds and relief supplies in its field offices along the typhoon path. - VVP, GMA News
