Codemasters and Epic Games hacked, data stolen

Hackers broke into the sites of at least two gaming firms this week, stealing one firm's data and posting the other's database online. Computer security firm Sophos reported Friday night that hackers broke into UK-based video game developer Codemasters' site and took customer information. "In an email sent to customers, Codemasters explained that the intrusion was detected on Friday June 3rd, and users are urged to change their online passwords and keep an eye open for scams which might exploit the stolen information," Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley said in a blog post. He said the data taken included names, addresses, usernames, dates of birth, telephone numbers, gamer tags, and encrypted passwords. Fortunately, he said the firm assured customers that credit card information was not included in the hackers' haul. Still, he said the data which was exposed would be of value to phishers and other online criminals. Meanwhile, a hacker also broke into the site of Epic Games, according to an article on The Hacker News website. It said that "Contra" hacked the whole database and leaked the database structure online. - TJD, GMA News
