Man survives suicidal leap in front of LRT-2 train in Cubao

A man survived a suicidal leap in front of a Light Rail Transit-2 train at the Cubao station on Saturday morning, according to a report on GMA News’ “24 Oras." The man, whose identity was not revealed in the newscast, lost his left hand and half of his forearm after throwing himself in front of the oncoming Recto-bound train at about 10 a.m.
The speed of the train during the incident was approximately 25 kilometers per hour, according to the Light Rail Transit Authority. The man went under a couple of carriages after hitting the front windshield of the train, the report said. He was immediately taken away from the railway after the apparent failed suicide attempt. “Ayaw niya magpabigay ng karampatang lunas. Pinahiga namin siya sa stretcher, [pero] nagpupumilit siyang tumayo at tatakbo siya [pabalik sa railway]," Ronaldo Cruz, manager of LRT-2 Cubao station, said in the report. The man was brought to East Avenue Medical Center. At the hospital, he told GMA News that he was battling depression so he decided to commit suicide. “Di ko na po kasi makita ang mga anak ko. Magpapakamatay nalang po ako para wala na isipin," he said. His brother, who was also not identified in the report, rushed to the hospital after finding out the incident. He said: “Sana po kung makita nila, pumunta sila rito para makita nila yung kalagayan ng [kapatid ko]." — JE, GMA News
