MMDA starts talks for central bus terminals in NCR

To declog traffic along major thoroughfares, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started talks with stakeholders to limit provincial buses' operations to two terminals in Metro Manila. The MMDA is considering placing one terminal at Balintawak in Quezon City and another in Baclaran or the Mall of Asia area in Pasay, radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad reported Monday. Under the proposed setup, provincial buses will no longer be allowed to ply Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), the report said. Among the stakeholders that the MMDA is in talks with are the Departments of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); Transportation and Communications (DOTC); and Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB). MMDA officials are also studying the possibility of the terminals connecting to smaller bus terminals near the North and South Luzon Expressways (NLEX/SLEX). - VVP, GMA News
