Weather: LPA moves further away from PHL

A low-pressure area continued to move away from Philippine territory Monday afternoon, but state weather forecasters said flash floods and landslides still threaten Palawan and Mindanao. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was some 180 km west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan as of 2 p.m. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Visayas and Mindanao. "Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Palawan and Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said. PAGASA added the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the southwest to southeast with slight to moderate seas. — KBK, GMA News
