Suspect in Maguindanao massacre falls - Army

Another suspect in the November 2009 Maguindanao massacre has fallen into government hands, the commanding general of the Philippine Army said. The arrest of Nasser Talib brought to 92 the total number of arrested suspects, while over 100 others remain at large. According to a text message by Lt. Gen. Arturo Ortiz, Talib was apprehended by elements of the Army's 104th Brigade in Barangay Poblacion in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao province around 9:30 a.m. Monday. Ortiz said Talib has been turned over to representatives of the Justice Department and will be promptly brought to Manila for proper court proceedings. The high profile case is being handled by Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 221. Two members of the prominent Ampatuan clan — Andal Sr. and Andal Jr. — have pleaded not guilty to the multiple murder charges against them. Fifty-six others have entered the same plea. More than 100 other suspects remain at large, while other detained suspects including other Ampatuan scions, Rizaldy and Sajid, have yet to be arraigned pending the resolution of their respective motions in court. — RSJ, GMA News
