Weather: LPA may bring floods, landslides over Palawan, Mindanao
Flash floods and landslides threaten parts of Palawan and Mindanao due to a shallow low-pressure area east of Mindanao, state weather forecasters said Tuesday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the SLPA was estimated at 250 km east of Southern Mindanao as of 8 a.m. In its 10:30 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said the SLPA is embedded along the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. "These weather system is expected to bring scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao becoming widespread rains over Northern Palawan and Southern Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said. Earlier, PAGASA forecaster Elvie Enriquez said they are monitoring the weather system to see if it will intensify into a cyclone. While Enriquez said there is no sign yet the LPA will become a cyclone, they cannot discount the possibility. If the LPA intensifies into a cyclone while in Philippine territory, it will be codenamed "Egay." — RSJ, GMA News
