Hack turns iPad into 'functional' phone

A hack promises to turn Apple's popular iPad 3G tablet computer into a functional, if not oversized, mobile phone. The "PhoneIt-iPad" hack works only on jailbroken iPads, or those hacked to allow apps from outside Apple's App Store. "(You can) just use normal phone SIM card. (But) data SIM cards will not work because they are for internet only ... If your SIM card can make phone calls on phones it will make phone calls on iPad," said the authors in their website. They said that the app can run on any jailbroken iPad1 running iOS version 4.3.3. However, they said that texters trying to write an SMS message for the first time may not see what they are typing. "This happen(s) for the first time only; just hit the Enter key and you will never face this again," they said. On the other hand, they said the PhoneIt-iPad is not MMS-ready yet. - TJD, GMA News
