Woman killed in Quezon City ambush

Heavily armed men wearing black masks and jackets shot dead a 39-year-old woman in a daring ambush near a mall in Quezon City Tuesday night. Witnesses said the assailants' van blocked the victim's car around 9:30 p.m. at the corner of Regalado Street and Commonwealth Avenue, radio dzBB reported Wednesday. Quezon City Police Station 5 head Superintendent Pedro Sanchez identified the victim as Sheryl Sarmiento, 39, a party planner residing in Fairview, Quezon City. Recovered from the crime scene were shells from “high-powered" firearms. An initial investigation showed a van blocked the path of Sarmiento's Toyota Altis (NIU-285), and four men alighted from the van and opened fire on the Altis. "The assailants wore black clothes and appeared to wear masks," a witness said in an interview aired on the television newscast "Saksi" Tuesday night. The witness said they heard gunshots and saw the assault.
On the other hand, a dzBB report said police are looking into the possibility Tuesday night's incident was a case of mistaken identity, as Sarmiento's relatives said the victim had no enemy.
