Cop dies after shootout with suspected robbers in Taguig

A policeman died following a shootout with at least three suspected robbers in Taguig City Wednesday night, but not before critically wounding one of the suspects. PO1 Venerando Pantino died while undergoing treatment at the Taguig Pateros Hospital, according to a report by radio dzBB’s Rodil Vega Thursday. Pantino was a member of the Metro Manila police. Still in critical condition was one of the suspects, initially identified as one Cristel Manansala. The incident occurred past 6:15 p.m. when the suspects were trying to rob an eatery in Western Bicutan village. Pantino, a resident of the area and still in civilian clothes at the time, tried to approach the suspects but shot him when they saw the policeman’s firearm. However, he managed to draw his firearm and hit one of the escaping suspects. Both were taken to the Taguig Pateros Hospital, where Pantino died at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday. — RSJ, GMA News
