PHL official chairs ILO's committee for domestic workers

A Philippine labor official was elected to head a committee for domestic workers during the International Labor Conference’s 100th session in Geneva last June 3, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday. Labor Undersecretary Hans Cacdac will head the body negotiating the Convention on Decent Work for Domestic Workers, the DFA said in a statement. “The election of Undersecretary Cacdac reflects international recognition of the Philippine initiatives in promoting and protecting the rights of overseas workers," the DFA said. Evan Garcia, permanent Philippine representative to the United Nations in Geneva, said the Philippine government’s priority is to promote and ensure the humane treatment of its overseas workers through international cooperation. He said the Philippines is active in the committee on domestic workers to secure the common international objective of realizing decent work conditions for domestic workers. — JE, GMA News
