Palace denies anointing former party-list lawmaker as ARMM OIC

Malacañang on Thursday denied reports that it has already chosen former Anak Mindanao party-list Representative Mujiv Hataman as the officer-in-charge of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARRM). At a press briefing, Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang said talks about the ARMM OIC are still premature because the selection process has not yet begun. “I think talk about any OIC is premature. Certainly, many names are being floated around including Mujiv Hataman’s but there’s been no decision. The process has not begun yet and any talk about individual appointments at this point is premature," he said. He said the selection process will start once the President has signed into law the bill postponing the ARMM polls. The Congress, however, has yet to submit to Malacañang an enrolled copy of the bill. “Hindi pa nare-receive but we’re eager to sign that bill. So when Congress is ready to send us the bill we will be ready to sign it," he said. Carandang said the bill has to be signed by the President first so that the preparations can be made. “’Pag napirmahan na ‘yung batas, doon mag-uumpisa ‘yung proseso," he said. “Only then will we be able to determine kung sino ang itatalagang OIC ng ARMM. At this point, any names that are being floated really are just speculations." — MRT/VS, GMA News
