Palace: Intel report on Independence Day terror attack was 'raw'

The Palace on Friday confirmed having received a "raw and unconfirmed" intelligence report about a possible Independence Day terror attack last June 12. In a press statement, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said, “The intelligence report indicating possible terror activity on June 12 was raw and unconfirmed." "Be that as it may, our intelligence and law enforcement community has taken measures to validate these reports, preferring to err on the side of caution," he said. Lacierda assured the public that there was no reason to worry about the country’s security. “The safety of our citizens remains among the foremost concerns of the government," he said. He added the heightened alert in Metro Manila is a preventive measure more than anything else. He explained that it was put in place to monitor the situation in the country so that any potential danger to the people might be deterred. At a press briefing, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said there was no reason to worry because the government’s security agencies continue to identify the threats to the country. “Dapat patuloy ang ating pag-iingat. Let this not get in the way of our daily activities," she said. - VVP, GMA News
