Arroyo recuperating, might be out of hospital Friday night

As her health continues to improve, former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo might be released from hospital by Friday night. Mrs. Arroyo was rushed to the St. Luke's Medical Center Thursday morning after suffering from "cervical radiculopathy" or "pinched nerve" caused by a compressed nerve root on her neck. On Friday, however, Mrs. Arroyo's husband, former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, said his wife could now move her body. "She's okay and recuperating. She might check out already tonight. She's feeling much better. Yesterday, she cannot even move. Today, she can move already," he said in a report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali. Mr. Arroyo said his wife had been suffering from the condition even while she was still president, but Thursday's incident was so intense that Mrs. Arroyo could no longer move.
He said his wife is undergoing a physical therapy. She is also wearing neck braces, and has been advised to take a rest after being discharged from the hospital. Mr. Arroyo said he saw no problem in his wife's not being able to report for work, because Congress is on recess. Mrs. Aroyo's engagements today have all been canceled but Mr. Arroyo hinted that his wife might still be able to show up at the 40th wedding anniversary of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago on Sunday. Among the former president's visitors at the hospital on Friday was her son, Ang Galing Pinoy party-list Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo. — LBG/RSJ, GMA News
