The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Egay was 200 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar, as of 4 a.m. and threatened the Bicol region. In its 5 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Egay packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and was moving northwest at 15 kph. By Sunday morning it is expected to be 110 km north of Virac, Catanduanes. By Monday morning it is expected to be 80 km northeast of Tuguegarao City. By Tuesday morning it is forecast to be 140 km northwest of Basco, Batanes or 90 km south of Taiwan. Under Storm Signal No. 1 are Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur in Bicol; and the Samar provinces in Eastern Visayas. PAGASA reminded residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes under Signal 1 to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides. It also said Egay will enhance the southwest monsoon and will bring rains over the Western sections of Southern Luzon, of Visayas and Mindanao. “The Provinces of Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Northern and Eastern Samar will have rains with gusty winds and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough. "Mindanao and the rest of Visayas and of Southern Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides while the rest of Luzon will be mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms," PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. 'New cyclone' Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring a potential new cyclone that may enter Philippine territory as early as Tuesday this coming week, radio dzBB reported Saturday. The report said PAGASA expects the new potential cyclone, now in the Marianas area, to enter Philippine territory through the Visayas and likely to be already a tropical depression or a tropical storm by then. It added the cyclone is likely to enter Philippine territory after Egay leaves the country. Should it enter Philippine territory, the potential cyclone will be codenamed “Falcon." — LBG, GMA News
