Palace believes talks with NDFP will resume soon

Despite the reported postponement of formal peace talks between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), Malacañang remained confident Saturday the peace process will resume soon. In an interview on government radio dzRB, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the government will always act in “good faith." “Tuloy naman ang kumpyansa natin. We have always come to the negotiating table in good faith, umaasa tayo the talks will move forward," she said. Valte said the delay occurred because the NDFP had taken issue with the continued detention of some of its peace consultants. She said the government’s stance has been to see if the supposed consultants are covered by the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG). “Kung masunod ang proseso at karapatdapat naman silang mapalaya sa ilalim ng JASIG, wala tayong problema doon," she said. (If the processes are followed and the consultants are entitled to the privileges under the JASIG, we have no problem with that.) — LBG, GMA News
