Bring umbrellas to Rizal Day activities, says PAGASA

Filipinos in Manila and Laguna may have to bring umbrellas and raincoats when they mark the 150th birth anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal on Sunday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said this as Rizal Day rites are slated in Manila and in Calamba, Laguna. “We can expect 'Egay' to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains to Southern Luzon and Metro Manila," PAGASA forecaster Joel Jesusa said on government-run dzRB radio. Several activities are slated for Rizal Day in Metro Manila, including a fun run organized by the Department of Education. Meanwhile, President Benigno Aquino III will lead the nation in marking Rizal's birth anniversary in Laguna. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said disaster management units in Luzon, Bicol, and Mindanao are on alert. In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said Bicol in particular is on heightened alert and has alerted response units for deployment if needed. On the other hand, disaster management units in Metro Manila prepositioned teams in Manila, Navotas, Caloocan, Quezon, Makati, Mandaluyong and Pasig cities. — JE, GMA News
