Army soldiers nab communist leader in Bacolod

A leader of the New People’s Army was arrested by government forces in Bacolod City on Saturday morning, a top military official reported. The suspect, identified as Marilyn Badayos Condes, was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Negros Oriental province’s judge, Ananson Jayme, for a charge of rebellion, said Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Arturo Ortiz. Condes, the incumbent secretary of the Southeast Front of Central Visayas Regional Party Committee, was accused of killing Scout Ranger Capt. Wilson Montenegro, who led an assault of a rebel camp in Sta. Catalina town in Negros Oriental last May 3. Condes was nabbed by military troopers around 9 a.m. at Omars Pension House on Narra Street in Bacolod City, Ortiz said. The suspect was promptly turned over to the Philippine National Police for the filing of additional charges against her, he also said. Condes was likewise involved in an ambuscade last March 16 in Tayak village in Siaton town, also in Negros Oriental, that eventually wounded a soldier. — JE, GMA News
