14 hurt in bus accident in Quezon City

At least 14 people were injured in an accident involving two passenger buses along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City early Sunday. The incident occurred on the highway's southbound lane, according to a report by radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz. Passing motorists took the injured passengers to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment. An initial investigation showed a Nova bus and a Jell Transport bus figured in the accident. The front of the Nova bus, driven by one Erwin Dulay, was heavily damaged, the report said, adding that several passengers suffered injuries in different parts of the body. Investigators are verifying information that the drivers of the two buses were racing to get more passengers. The 12.4-km Commonwealth Avenue has gained a reputation as a "killer highway" because of the high number of deadly road accidents occurring there. Last May, journalist-professor Chit Estella-Simbulan was killed after a bus rammed a taxi she was riding. Recent deadly incidents on Commonwealth Avenue prompted authorities to crack down on speedsters along the highway. — LBG, GMA News
