PhilPost issues commemorative Rizal stamps

Stamp collectors now have something new to look forward to — the Philippines Postal Corporation's (PhilPost) "commemorative" stamps in celebration of national hero Jose Rizal's 150th birth anniversary. The Jose Rizal@150 stamps were classified as "commemorative," with a denomination of P7 and a quantity of 70,000 pieces each for two se-tenant pairs. A souvenir sheet with a P150 denomination and a quantity of 6,000 pieces is also available, according to the PhilPost website.

PhilPost also launched an exhibit called "Rizaliano Collection on Stamps Exhibit by Joerge Cuyugan and Philatelic friends," which features complete sets of Rizal stamps issued by the PhilPost, including artworks from a design content sponsored by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. The exhibit was unveiled last week and will be in the Manila Central Post Office Building until June 30. It also features winning stamp designs that will also be used by PhilPost in launching the special limited stamps of Rizal@150. Students created the stamp designs "based on their interpretation of Rizal's ideals," according to the PhilPost. Two of the designs will be made into stamps while another one will be for the cachet of the First Day Cover envelope that was issued on June 19. - Bea Cupin/KBK, GMA News
