Manhunt on for Pasig cop tagged in Manila shooting

A manhunt is under way for a Pasig City policeman who allegedly dead one person and wounded three others in Sta. Ana, Manila before dawn on Monday. The victims were reportedly playing “cara y cruz" at a wake in a residential area in Sta. Ana when the incident occurred, radio dzBB’s Roland Bola reported. The police are now tracking down PO1 Sonny Merino of the Pasig City police, who reportedly escaped after the shooting. Homicide and multiple frustrated homicide charges as well as administrative sanctions await Merino, according to a separate report by dzBB’s Carlo Mateo. The person killed in the incident was named in the radio report as construction worker Apolonio Torres, 28; those wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment were Eduardo Ocampo; Fernando Morales, 41; and Rogelio Matias. The initial investigation showed that the victims were gambling during a wake at Estares Street in Sta. Ana in Manila when the policeman suddenly showed up and fired at them. At the time, the policeman allegedly became irritated because of the noise the victims were making. The Manila Police District Homicide Division said Merino may have used his 9-mm service firearm in the shooting. - VVP, GMA News
