Filipino Muslims based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent to the Philippines some 2,000 kilos of dates for Muslims in Mindanao for the holy month of Ramadan. According to the news site Khaleej Times on Monday, it was the second time this year that the Maranao Muslim Community (Marcom) sent such items. The other religious items that the Muslim community sent were:

  • 75 prayer mats;
  • 20 sheila;
  • 20 women’s praying dresses, and
  • 100 copies of the Holy Quran printed in big letters for the aged. The report said the dates, Qurans, and 66 of the 75 prayer mats were donated by the family of Wafa Kasimieh, senior adviser for Filipinos at the Islamic Affairs in Dubai. Ibrahim Marohumbsar, chairman of the Maranao Muslim Community in Dubai, said only Pinoy Muslims in the UAE have been sending such gifts during the Ramadan. This year’s shipment is part of the Marcom's annual charitable and community services for fellow Muslims in the Philippines. Camid Pumbaya, president of the Marcom in the UAE, said the group said the items will be sent to the Philippines in time for Ramadan in August. According to the website "Palm Wonders," Muslims are encouraged break their fast at the sunset during the month of Ramadan by eating dates and drinking water.
