Google: Dads searched more than Moms, but not in PHL

Fathers had the edge over mothers this year, at least in terms of online searches for Fathers' Day and Mother's Day topics, according to online search engine Google. Data from the search giant, however, showed that the reverse is true for the Philippines. Google indicated that the higher number of searches for Father's Day was a "first" for this year, at least in the United States. "This year, dads win for the first time: searches for (Father's Day) higher than (Mother's Day)," Google said in its Twitter account on Monday. In most countries including the Philippines, Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday of May while Father's Day falls on the third Sunday of June. Google's Insights for Search noted that searches in the US for Mother's Day usually outnumbered those for Father's Day from 2004 to 2010. But its worldwide search data indicated that searches for Father's Day and Mother's Day evened out in 2009, with Father's Day searches slightly outnumbering those for Mother's Day in 2010. In the Philippines, Google's figures showed searches for Father's Day outnumbered those for Mother's Day in 2010. However, the trend was reversed in 2011, with Mother's Day searches getting a big edge over those for Father's Day. —JMT/KBK, GMA News
