NDRRMC: 'Egay' leaves 1 dead, 1 missing in Bataan


At least one person was killed while another was reported missing in the wake of Tropical Depression Egay, which dumped rains on parts of the country last weekend. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the fatality, Mary Joy Reyes; and the missing, Dorina Reyes, were both from Bataan. "Mary Joy Reyes, 3, of Brgy. Tipo Dinalupihan, Bataan died due to drowning while Dorina Reyes, 5, of Brgy. Tipo, Dinalupihan, Bataan was reported missing," it said in its 7 p.m. Monday report. It also said floods occurred in Bataan and Bulacan provinces Monday afternoon due to high tide and heavy downpour, affecting at least 14 villages. Villages affected in Bataan included Padre Dandan, Pentor and Mabini villages in Dinalupihan (knee-high floods). Those in Bulacan included Balungao and Corazon in Calumpit (one foot high); Bayugo, Poblacion, Longos and Bancal (Meycauayan); and Abangan Norte, Maria Socorro, Abangan Sur, Ibayo, Poblacion 2 and Nagbalon (Marilao). On the other hand, the NDRRMC recorded a landslide in Olongapo City at 12:45 p.m., affecting Kalaklan, Mabayuan and Gordon Heights villages. Some 13 families or 48 people were affected, with four families or 23 people evacuated to the Mabayuan village hall. Meanwhile, the NDRMC said lifelines in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Central and Southern Luzon were operational, with national roads passable and water, electricity and communication lines operating. — RSJ, GMA News
