LTFRB eyes sanctions vs 2 bus firms for Sunday accident

Sanctions loom against two bus firms for an accident that injured 14 people along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Sunday. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will issue show-cause orders to Nova and Jell Transport this week, radio dzBB reported Tuesday. The buses of the two firms figured in an accident early on Sunday, hurting at least 14 passengers. Investigators are looking into information that the two buses were racing each other to get more passengers. The dzBB report said the show-cause order will require the two bus firms to explain why they should not be sanctioned for Sunday's incident. The 12.4-kilometer Commonwealth Avenue has been dubbed a "killer highway" because of the high number of road accidents there. In May this year, journalist-professor Lourdes Estella-Simbulan was killed after a bus rammed her taxi from behind while it was traveling along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. - VVP, GMA News
