Chit Estella's family, friends stage run for safe driving

The family and friends of Lourdes "Chit" Estella Simbulan marked on Tuesday the 40th day after the death of the journalist-professor with a running activity for safe driving in Quezon City. The participants ran from the University of the Philippines (UP) campus in Diliman, Quezon City where Simbulan taught to Commonwealth Avenue, also in QC, where Estella-Simbulan was killed on May 13, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported. Estella-Simbulan's widower Roland said the run should be a reminder for motorists and drivers to be more careful in their driving. Roland, also a UP Professor, urged government agencies to sustain their efforts to enforce traffic rules along the 12.4-kilometer stretch of Commonwealth Avenue, dubbed the "killer highway." The dzBB report said Estella-Simbulan's friends and kin also offered flowers at the site of the May 13 accident that claimed her life. Estella-Simbulan was killed after a bus rammed from behind the taxi that she was riding in. Aside from the run, her family and friends will gather for Mass on Tuesday afternoon that will be offered for Estella-Simbulan. - VVP, GMA News
