EU business to improve sales — Alsons Aquaculture

On the heels of an expansion to the European Union, Alsons Aquaculture Corp. is expecting a 17 percent increase in aquaculture sales to P1 billion in 2011 from P940 million a year earlier, company president and chairman Tomas Alcantara said Tuesday. Of the amount, P800 million is expected to come from exports and P200 million from local sales, the company, a division of Alsons Consolidated Resources Corp, said. Alsons Aquaculture exports milkfish to different cities in the United States and Canada under the brand Sarangani Bay. Last year, the company was accredited by the European Union to export milkfish to the continent. “Currently, our trade relation with the EU is still in the experimental stage. We recently shipped trial shipments to Italy, England [as well as] Israel. We hope to get a strong foothold there, like we did in the US and Canada," said Alcantara. The company exports five container vans of fish to the US and two container vans to Canada each month. — BC/VS, GMA News
