NDRRMC: 2,478 evacuated from Zambales due to 'Egay'


A total of 2,478 people were evacuated from their homes due to rains and floods brought by Tropical Depression Egay (Haima), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Wednesday. In its 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said Egay also damaged at least five houses in San Miguel village in San Antonio town in Zambales. The NDRRMC said the evacuated residents included:

  • 13 families or 31 people in two evacuation centers, the Senior Citizen Bldg and Botolan South Elementary School, in Barangays Bangan and Paco in Botolan town;
  • 81 families or 364 people in an evacuation center at Sto. Niño Elementary School in Sto. Niño village in San Felipe town;
  • 646 families or 2,025 individuals being served outside the evacuation centers in Maloma, Balicaguing, Rosete, Ferial, and Apostol villages of San Felipe town; and
  • 18 families or 58 people staying with their relatives in Brgy. San Miguel in San Antonio, town. The NDRRMC said local disaster management officials in San Antonio extended a food-for-work program for the dredging of Pamatawan River Mouth. Also, they purchased sand bags for Antipolo village and extended food-for-work for sandbagging activities. Classes were canceled at all levels in Malolos, Meycauayan, and Obando in Bulacan due to floodings, the NDRRMC said. HK raises strong wind signal 3 for 'Egay' Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Observatory raised Strong Wind Signal No. 3 for Haima. "This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected," it said. As of 1 p.m., it said Haima was estimated at about 250 km south-southwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 14 kph towards the coast of western Guangdong. — RSJ, GMA News
