Pinay elected mayor of Hercules City in California

With proper motivation, Filipinos can excel in whatever field anywhere in the world. Such is the case of Myrna Lardizabal-de Vera, who was recently elected mayor of Hercules City in California. A native of Cebu, De Vera is the fifth Filipino-American mayor to become the chief executive of the city, according to a report on GMA News TV Live. The report said De Vera became a Hercules City council member and vice mayor before getting the mayoralty seat last January.

In 2009, De Vera was chosen by the Filipina Women’s Network as one of the 100 most influential Filipina women in the United States. The non-profit organization honors Filipino women who have done outstanding work in their respective fields there. De Vera was also awarded the Hercules Woman of the Year by the Contra Costa College last 2010. She also obtained a special recognition from the Hercules Chamber of Commerce in the same year. Together with her husband Manuel and three sons, De Vera has been a resident of Hercules City since 1991. She also owns Allstate Insurance Agency. In 1982, De Vera finished Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. - Jesse Edep/KBK, GMA News
