Pinay maid stranded in KSA returns home to PHL
One of the two runaway Filipino household helpers stranded in Saudi Arabia has finally returned home to the Philippines on Tuesday, the Philippine Embassy said. According to a report of the site Arab News on Wednesday, "Her flight was postponed last Saturday for reasons that were unknown to us. The Saudi authorities did not tell us what the reasons were." The report said the embassy advised the Filipina, nicknamed "Leonora," to visit the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to claim the benefits due her as a member. But the official said “Leonora" expressed thanks to the embassy for assisting her while in prison at Al-Nisa. She also thanked Arab News for following up her case. According to Arab News, “Leonora" was sentenced to four months in prison and 40 lashes for immorality but she was recommended for clemency to the Governor’s Office after three months in jail. The report said the other Filipina, nicknamed "Sophia," will also be repatriated soon. - VVP, GMA News
