2 suspected robbers killed in QC shootout

Two of three suspected robbers were killed after they encountered a police patrol team moments after their last heist in Quezon City before dawn Thursday. Quezon City Police Station 4 head Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr. said a manhunt is ongoing for the third suspect who managed to elude arrest. "Our mobile patrol unit chanced upon them along Quirino Highway. When the suspects saw the police mobile team, they fired on our men, who were forced to fire back. Two were hit and killed, while the third managed to escape," Pedrozo said in Filipino in an interview on dzBB radio. Citing initial reports reaching him, Pedrozo said the men had just robbed a burger stall in Gulod village in the city's Novaliches district when they chanced on the patrol team. "Natyempo itong tatlo nakasakay sa motor (Our mobile team chanced on the three men on the motorcycle)," he said. The robbery was the latest in a string of crimes in Quezon City. Last week, two women were shot dead in violent crimes in the city. Last week, armed men gunned down Sheryl Sarmiento in an ambush near a mall in Quezon City. Police are looking into the possibility the ambush may be a case of mistaken identity. Also last week, armed men shot dead Teresita Teaño and took her Hyundai Accent car. Police have sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation in solving last week's killings. — RSJ, GMA News
