PUP suspends night classes

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines on Thursday afternoon announced the suspension of night classes at its Manila campus. PUP president Dante Guevarra said this was due to the floods in Manila's Sta. Mesa district, where the PUP campus is located, radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported. Guevarra said the suspension covers night classes from 6 to 9 p.m. However, he said those already taking afternoon classes will be allowed to finish their sessions. The report quoted Guevarra as noting that floods caused by rains brought by Tropical Storm Falcon (Meari) had affected several parts of Metro Manila. Earlier, the Department of Education (DepEd) suspended all afternoon classes in Pasay, Malabon, Manila, Taguig, and Pateros, the agency announced via its Twitter account @DepEd_PH. Only the elementary and high school levels fall under the jurisdiction of DepEd in terms of class suspensions. On Thursday morning, the state weather bureau said Falcon has slowed down but maintained its strength as it continues to move east of the Philippines. Falcon is the third weather disturbance to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this month. — with Paterno Esmaquel/RSJ, GMA News
