DepEd: Evening classes suspended in 5 NCR areas


The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended evening classes in five areas in Metro Manila on Friday following heavy rains brought by tropical storm "Falcon" (Meari). In an announcement on its Twitter account, the DepEd said evening classes are suspended in the cities of: * Pasay * Malabon * Manila * Taguig * Pateros (town) The DepEd has jurisdiction over schools at the preparatory, elementary and secondary levels. Classes in the collegiate level are under the jurisdiction of the Commission on Higher Education. Classes in San Juan City, meanwhile, will be suspended on Friday, the feast day of the city's patron saint John the Baptist. "Classes in San Juan suspended tomorrow, June 24," The Department of Education said in its Twitter account. San Juan City is known for its celebration of the feast of St. John the Baptist with the "Basaan," or a playful dousing and splashing of other people with water. The city government, for its part, has lined up activities for Friday, including a fiesta mass at 6 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Parish. It also organized a "Wattah" fiesta concert at 7 p.m. at the Plaza ng Masa. — KBK, GMA News
